Luz Angelica Dominguez

aka Angie · Co-founder and Chief Financial Officer

Some people who know Luz Angelica Dominguez call her Luz. Others call her Angelica. Both are correct, and both are used often enough that she asked to be introduced here as Luz Angelica, aka Angie. She co-founded Plastering Solutions Inc with her husband Jose, and she is the company's Chief Financial Officer. Her part of the business is the part most homeowners never see on a jobsite: the budget conversation, the deposit, the warranty terms and the permit paperwork.

The question homeowners are afraid to answer

Many homeowners hesitate before they tell a contractor their real budget. The worry is not irrational. If a contractor knows the ceiling, it is easy to assume the ceiling is what gets spent, whether the work calls for it or not.

At Plastering Solutions Inc one person owns that conversation start to finish. Not the estimator who walks the property, not whoever answers the phone that day. The budget discussion, the deposit, the warranty terms and the permit process all route through Luz.

When a client shares a number, her job is to build a proposal that fits inside it and to be plain about where each part of it goes. When a client is not ready to share a number, the company builds options at different levels instead of guessing at one. Either way it is the same person handling it every time, which is the point.

What Luz actually handles

The budget conversation, before anything is signed, which sits at the front of the full process. The deposit and payment process, which follows California's limits on what a contractor may collect before work begins, applied as standard practice rather than as a starting point for negotiation. The warranty terms, explained in plain language before a client ever needs to rely on them. And permit administration, including coordination with the city and with engineers or architects when a project needs them, so a homeowner is not left chasing forms alone.

From an engineering degree in Mexico to the books of a Bay Area contractor

Before Plastering Solutions Inc existed, Luz studied industrial engineering in Mexico. After she moved to the United States she tried other businesses in construction first.

What she noticed, as the company took shape around her and Jose, was that someone could run a crew and put stucco on a wall, but nobody was minding the other side with the same discipline: payroll, licensing, permits and the books.

So she went back to school. She enrolled in a bookkeeping course in the United States that ran roughly a year, specifically to learn how to run that side of a company properly. That is a deliberate retraining, in a second country, to close a gap she identified in her own business before anyone asked her to close it.

I love a lot like working with numbers and having everything in the right place, with a lot of transparency... it's earning the trust... learning how to manage everything the best way.

Transparency and trust were not chosen for this website. They are how Luz described her own job, unprompted, when asked how she came to run the financial side of the company. That is the standard she set for the role before this page existed.

Outside the office

Luz hikes regularly and has been to Oahu a couple of times, hiking there on each visit. She swims, and prefers warm tropical water to the cold water closer to home. Most days she walks more than once.

She also reads and writes for herself, specifically journaling. In her words, she likes to write down what she wants, or what she sees in the future. Cooking sits in the same category. She describes it as something that really relaxes her.

Her own son has a name for the way she operates.

Even my son said that I'm a little... pusher. Like, I always like to grow more, or I always like to see what else we can grow into, even when I'm... exhausted.
Luz Angelica Dominguez

It is a fair description of someone who saw a gap in her own company and went back to school to close it.

Co-founder, and married to Jose for over twenty two years

Luz co-founded Plastering Solutions Inc with Jose in 2018. The two have been married for more than twenty two years. Jose runs the trade side of the business, the crews and the fieldwork. Luz runs the financial and administrative side. Plastering Solutions Inc also carries a verified women owned attribute on its Yelp profile. You can meet the full team as well.

Beyond the jobsite

Plastering Solutions Inc attends and sponsors the annual fundraiser gala for Open Doors to Future Possibilities, an organization based in Alameda. The company also supports its local church community through the year.
