Closing the wall the window came out of
Pulling a window opens a hole in the exterior wall, and someone has to close that hole correctly rather than caulk around the trim. One crew sets the window and finishes the wall around it, instead of two trades signing off on two different scopes, because that patch back work falls under the C-35 Lathing and Plastering license alongside the Class B general building license the rest of our exterior work runs on.
Head flashing and the patch back around the opening are the two pieces that decide whether the wall keeps water out, and they only get handled together when one crew owns both.

When replacement makes more sense than repair
Whatever kind of window is already in your walls, double hung, casement, sliding, or a fixed picture window, the replacement conversation starts from the same question: what fits the opening, the elevation and how you actually use the room, not what we happen to stock. We are not tied to one style or one manufacturer.
The decision usually shows up as a symptom around the window rather than in the glass: staining or bulging in the stucco under the sill, a frame that no longer seals, or a wall that was already going to be opened for another reason.
Because the work involves opening the wall rather than a straight swap, the patch back sits inside the same scope as the window itself.
What window replacement costs
Once the wall comes open, the condition of the opening drives the price more than the window unit does. A straightforward swap into sound framing costs less than a job where opening the wall turns up dry rot or termite damage that has to be repaired before anything goes back. Number of openings, whether stucco or siding surrounds them, and how much matching the patch back needs, all move the number from there.

The warranty covers the patch back, not the window unit
Our exterior stucco work, including the patch back around a new window opening, carries a two year warranty against water intrusion, covering material and labor. It does not cover the window unit itself, its hardware or its glass, which carry whatever the manufacturer or window company offers separately. The terms are written out on our warranty page and confirmed in writing before the job starts.

Is the wall patch back a separate charge, or part of the window estimate?
One estimate covers both from the start. It is not a change order added after the crew opens the wall. The cost of closing and matching the wall around the opening is priced in before work begins, whether you found us directly or we are finishing after a window company's install.
I already bought windows from a window company. Can you still patch back?
Yes. Line up your patch back date once the window company has a firm install date. We need the new window already set in the opening before we can close and match the wall around it, so this step happens after their crew finishes, not before.
Can I hire you for a door replacement without also replacing windows?
Yes. Windows are the larger share of this work, but a door only patch back gets the same treatment as a window opening, and you do not need a window project attached to book one. See our door replacement page for the details.
Can you match the stucco so the patch is not obvious?
Texture, yes, every time: matching it is standard on a patch back, not an extra step billed separately. Color can still land a shade off on an older wall even with a close texture match. If that matters to you, ask about repainting the elevation. See interior and exterior painting.
Does finding rot push the whole window install back?
Rot does not stop the window going in. It changes the timeline for the wall around it: the damaged section gets cut back to sound material and rebuilt before the patch back can go on, which can add time to that step, and we flag it as soon as the crew can see it, not after the fact.
